The Policy Statement of the Solomon Islands Government is to build a broad-based and environmentally sustainable economy in resource sector including Mines & Energy and Forestry & Reforestation.

The policy objectives of Forestry and Reforestation sector as stated in the Policy Statement are;

1) To review the Forestry Act.
2) To promote downstream processing of forestry and timber industry in the country.
3) To encourage reforestation and replantation schemes in the country
4) To establish terrestrial parks, herbarium and botanical gardens to protect endangered plant species from becoming extinct.
5) To encourage small, medium and large forestry plantations in-partnership with resource owners and landholders in 'out-grower' schemes.
